San Fernando, Trinidad And Tobago, 18th Aug 2022, Trinidadian New Artiste on the rise Jahamila Courtney, who goes by the stage name ‘Jay C’ is ready to make some ‘Changes’. The 21-year-old Singer/ Songwriter who hails from Diego Martin, but currently resides in Maloney, Trinidad and Tobago is gearing up to make her musical debut and have enlisted the help of Trinidadian Producer/ Recording Artiste Azaryah (formerly known as Flipo).
So, who exactly is this new star on the rise?
Jay-C describes herself as a very easy-going person, energetic and ambitious individual. A great team player and personal advocate for success who is very big on the mantra of ‘Respect’. For as long as she could remember, ever since she has known herself, she has always been making music. Whether it be snapping her fingers, writing a song, humming, or singing out loud, music has always been a serious and sincere passion. So, deciding to do music was simply a no-brainer after deciding to pursue music professionally after writing her first song titled, ‘Big Dreams’.
When it comes to her musical style and background, Jay C considers it to be a unique fusion of Dancehall meets Reggae music. Simply put, she likes the idea of speaking positivity through music, as well as the freedom of sharing her story. With the excitement brewing for her upcoming release ‘Changes’, which was produced by Azaryah and written by both Azaryah and herself, Jay C shared that the song is about wanting to see a change nationwide.

When asked about some of her musical influences, Jay C highlighted the following (3) artistes- Trinbagonian Recording Artiste K Kay who she considers to be the best hype man and advisor she can ask for. Followed by Jamaican Dancehall Star, Alkaline and the impact that his journey has always inspired her as she hopes to be as successful as him one day. And lastly, American Singer/ Songwriter Giveon whose music has always been inspiring, especially how he interactions with fans.
Jay C, though new to the music scene has been overcoming her own share of challenges, one major obstacle she has been facing since the start of her career is time management. The new artiste shared that she never realized how much time you must invest when pursuing your dreams. When it comes to lessons learnt, she shared that the biggest lesson thus far is understanding that you can’t change someone’s perspective about you, because everyone is entitled to their own view and opinion. So, all you can do it simply your best and don’t stop, especially on the days when you feel like giving up, that’s the day you should push harder.
