Safety Campaigner, Regan Ballantine, joins Safety Governance Foundation Board

Perth, Western Australia Feb 15, 2023 (Issuewire.com) – Safety campaigner, Regan Ballantine, has joined the Board of the Safety Governance Foundation – a national non-profit focused on building society-wide awareness of the importance of workplace safety in governance.

“We are delighted that Regan has joined the Board and finds the energy and purpose to turn her lived experience toward helping address the issues of workplace safety and for the wider community”, said the Chair, Tim Wilson.

Ms. Ballantine’s 17-year-old son, Wesley, was tragically killed in a preventable workplace incident in 2017, which led her to become an outspoken advocate working with the WA government and other stakeholder groups to reform State legislation.

“Regan’s drive has already resulted in positive change in safety legislation and in the cultural mindset of many companies in Western Australia and now she will take these experiences nationally and provide invaluable support in building corporate awareness of the necessity to take workplace safety seriously”, Mr. Wilson said.

Ms. Ballantine said that legislation was a benchmark for minimum safety performance but lived culture turns words into action. “Today, organisations need to move beyond minimum standards of compliance and towards authentic values-driven policies, founded on genuine care for their workforce”.

“For organisations who aspire to be good corporate citizens, they must fully account for all costs associated with doing business – economic, social, and environmental. Safety oversight needs to be incorporated at a boardroom level,” Ms. Ballantine said.
