In QuickBooks, two accounts can be merged at a time and both accounts must have the same type of account. While merging two accounts in QuickBooks, the accounts they are being moved to should be the same parent or sublevel. For instance, if an account is a parent and another one is in a sub-account or sublevel, the two accounts cannot be merged until the account positions are changed to match.
Accounts can only be merged when they have the same name, type, and same grade level. Accounts cannot be merged if spellings are different from each other, have different account numbers or do not have the same level.
It is also important to remember that the account needs to be in multi-user mode and not in single-user mode when merging company files.
Customer To-do lists cannot be combined, merging the Customer field from the transaction is not possible. Payroll checks will not be shown in the payroll reports as they are merged in the regular check. Memorized transactions from secondary files cannot be transferred. If data files contain negative inventory, it would be difficult to merge assembly fields
